What is the goal of the AgriInterCulture program?
  • To grow the PEI Acadian and Francophone Community
  • Help PEI farmers recruit skilled labour to fill their on-farm human resource needs

Who are the workers, and where are they from?
  • Francophone skilled agricultural workers who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from an agricultural program, or who have experience working in agriculture
  • Are eligible for a temporary Canadian work visa; most will be from France + Belgium

How long do the workers need to work on the farm?
  • 3 to 24 months, with the potential to extend (will vary with each worker’s visa type)

Do I need to pay the workers?
  •  Yes, workers must be paid, + rates of pay will established between the farmer and the worker when creating the work contract agreement
    • $10.50/hr for students (PEI’s current Minimum Wage)
    • $14.00/hr + for graduates and specialized workers

What about room + board?
  • Farmers can CHOOSE to provide room + board for AgriInterCulture worker
  • Farmers who host their worker(s) on farm receive a discount from off the worker’s wage
    • Allowed to deduct a maximum of:
      • $25 per week - housing only;
      • $45 per week - meals only; or
      • $56 per week - full room and board
  • Those unable to host their worker(s) must cover home-to-farm commute for their worker
    • Farmers opting asked to assist with the search for a suitable living arrangement for the worker

  • Access to high skilled labor for up to 24 months, with the potential for extension
  • Job advertising + worker recruitment
  • Assistance settling worker into PEI culture
  • Work contract development assistance
